Jacobs rink unbeaten heading into playoff round of first event

Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre locally is off to the playoff round at the first curling event of the season with an unbeaten record.

Competing this weekend at the Oakville Labour Day Classic, the Jacobs rink – which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden – picked up a pair of wins on Sunday to cap off a 5-0 round robin at the four-day event.

The Jacobs rink opened action on Sunday with a 5-4 win over Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont. in the morning draw before beating Colton Flasch of Saskatoon 7-5 in the afternoon draw.

Jacobs capped off the win over Flasch by scoring four in the fifth end after Flasch had pulled ahead with three in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.

Against Howard in the morning draw, Jacobs picked up the win thanks to a pair in the eighth end.

On Saturday, the Jacobs rink picked up wins over Jed Brundidge of East St. Paul, Minn. (7-1) and Karsten Sturmay of Edmonton (6-5).

With the top record through round robin play, the Jacobs rink sealed a spot in semifinal action on Monday at the tournament.

Their opponent will be determined Sunday night in quarter-final action.
